This year my goal is to draw flowers and plants that are used for essential oils. This is an extension of my love for flowers and it provides another way to explore their unique qualities.

The first image that I explored is the Jasmine flower. The aromatic effect of the jasmine oil stimulates the release of certain hormones in the body, including serotonin, which results in the boost of energy and the uplifted mood.

The actual flowers are very delicate with a light value, almost white color this is in contrast to the leaves that are hearty and have a darker green value. You can see below in the image of my sketchbook page that I begin by playing around with the shapes of the flower. I use photographs of the flower as a visual reference. I try different composition combinations before I get started with the final drawing. My goal is show the characteristics of the flower and leaves realistically and portray their flavor.

This drawing and your intention are both compelling. I’d love to collaborate with you in any ways I can.
