Mike Dalkubara is an industrial designer and urban sketcher who has also published several E-books.  Notice his wonderful sketching style in these two Hotel Layout Sketches. The image below was drawn on the hotel paper, you can see the logo on the top.  What a great idea to sketch your hotel room when you are traveling.

Visit his site to view more of his images .  Be sure to take time and see the preview of his fun E-book that is filled with drawing examples called Sketch Mike Sketch.  I find this E-Book format is such an exciting way to view sketches and get inspiration.

I love the his use of aerial perspective in the second image on this post, that is something I will have to play with moving forward. It gave him the ability to show details usually not seen but also still convey the overall floor plan. I also love the idea of drawing hotel rooms when traveling; their layouts and space planning can often be quite innovative and helpful when trying to condense floor plans. When we were working on the mother-in-law suite addition I made a point to search several hotel websites for inspiration. The on thing I do wish that I could do however after looking through his book would be to save it to my IPad to flip trough later, but of course that is just a technical thing and not a design flaw.

I thought this would be fun for you to see since he is using an architectural style of communicating. I too appreciate the details and his sense of humor in his drawings. Prof. Stephanie
