Drawing Inspiration from Everyday Life

Shari Blaukoff is a graphic designer and teacher.  She has challenged herself to add an image everyday to her blog, The Sketchbook.  It is inspiring to see how she uses subjects that are part of her everyday life.  I am especially appreciating this line drawing which looks like it is a scene from her home.  She skillfully uses line to show value and texture to draw this delightful, intimate image.

Here is an architectural sketch called “On Campus”.  It was drawn on March 20, 2012.  This is part of a note about her drawing experience, “There are many beautiful buildings surrounding the Vanier College campus in Montreal but I can never get a good view of them from my car. Today the sun was out and even though it was still quite cold, I ventured out to a picnic table and drew until my fingers were numb.”

Check out her blog site, The Sketchbook.  She will be teaching workshops this summer, 2012 in Portland, Montreal, Paris and Oregon.  Sounds like fun!

Wow, her work is amazing. My favorite is the image titled “all askew.” The interesting shapes make it come alive. It’s great that she is able to produce such images with her challenge of posting one image a day. Some people need a week to complete one.
