Doodling in the Conference Room

Doodling is moving into the corporate world!  Here is a link to an article in The Wall Street Journal by Rachel Emma Silverman talking about “putting the smart phone down and picking up a pencil.”.  This is an informative article on the power of visual communication and how business are encouraging individuals to add sketching and images to their meetings to promote creativity.

Do you find yourself doodling during a meeting?  Here is one of my sketches drawn during a long meeting.  Silverman’s article includes information about doodling,  “A 2009 study published in the journal Applied Cognitive Psychology found that doodlers retained more than nondoodlers when remembering information that had been presented in a boring context, such as a meeting or conference call.”  This is how it works for me.  I like to sketch and doodle around while I am sitting in a meeting.  I find that I can remember information from the meeting too.  Next time you find yourself in a meeting, pick up that pencil and let the doodling begin!

I have been a doodler since I was a girl. My mother always encouraged me to draw. Although I didn’t pursue it until I was older at Maryville University. I did not have the self confidence to continue but once I had formal classes I really enjoyed it more.
