Demonstrating Setting up for Marker Rendering Project

Here is a video about the preliminary steps I take before adding color to a line drawing using Chartpak markers.  Take a look at the drawing tools I use, the color chart that is created for referencing the color markers and how I keep from having too many choices by separating the markers that I am going to use.  Check it out!

I really enjoyed your video demonstrating how you set up for marker rendering projects. I enjoyed hearing about what works best for you in completing the project and the end process of the orchid drawing was absolutely beautiful. The use of the markers for the drawing really bring the drawing to life. I especially loved the pop of blue in the background. Thanks so much for sharing your process.

      Hello Amanda,
I totally agree that color adds so much to an image. I will say I have waited a long time before jumping into the world of color. I have wanted to be comfortable with my drawing skills first. Glad to be teaching the marker class this summer which inspires me to practice. Prof. Stephanie

I absolutely love this rendering! Orchids are one of my favorite flowers and you do a great job of drawing them, and now rendering them. You gave some useful suggestions about the process of setting up for a rendering project. I have already found the scrap piece of paper very useful for our assignments this week. It helps me choose which colors look good together, as well as practice my rendering techniques before actually attempting them on the assignment. I am very new at this, as I’m sure almost everyone in the course is, and I feel that this blog will prove to be very useful to me throughout this course.

I love the idea of having that already made chart of all your available colors and their names. I can see how that would be very helpful to have on hand while rendering. Also, I’m like you Prof. Stephanie, if all my markers were out in front of me at once I’d get so confused and not know which marker to use for what. Your idea of separating the markers into two smaller groups to have out on your workspace is wonderful and I’m definitely planning on using that!
